About

I have a lot of interests, some of which I hope will be worth sharing here, and all of which MAY belong together in the same place.  I guess we’ll see how that unfolds.  I have half a thought to repost some of my past writing in other online forums, little by little, insofar as this seems relevant and useful in the coming months. As perhaps could go without saying, I hope to add new things as they emerge.

I’m an interdisciplinary scholar with interests in American Studies and the intersections between leftish cultural critique and North American religion, especially over the past few decades.  You can find out more about this side of me than you probably want to know if you click here:  https://volweb.utk.edu/~mhulseth/resume.html

I’m also a musician who plays some sort of Americana style with a fair amount of jazz voicings and a wide range of influences from musicians like Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Joe Strummer, Joni Mitchell, Merle Haggard, Ruben Blades, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Tori Amos – not that I can reproduce all their styles but I sometimes I can cover them with acceptable quality or capture their spirit in my own songs.
